CHICAGO — Feb. 4, 2021 — GreenKey Technologies (GK) recently entered a partnership with the R2 Network, a newly launched public safety innovation platform. The partnership will expose more public safety departments and elected officials to GreenKey’s advanced police body camera analytics technology.
Funded by a $1 million government grant, the R2 Network is a public-private partnership formed by three U.S. Department of Commerce agencies including the Economic Development Administration (EDA), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet Authority).
Launched in 2021, the network aims to provide public safety departments with a nation-wide network of technology vendors like GreenKey, offering solutions to today’s disaster response and resiliency challenges.
According to Under Secretary of Commerce for Standards and Technology and NIST Director, Walter G. Copan, “Public-private partnerships such as the R2 Network can be powerful tools, bringing together the right collaborators to create needed solutions fueled by American innovation.”
With public safety organizations under pressure to improve policing tactics and public sentiment, body-worn camera programs are becoming more prevalent in police departments across the country. Analyzing the footage collected from police body cameras is a new challenge these departments are facing.
To date, only 1% of police body camera footage is ever viewed as structuring and analyzing this data has historically been too time-consuming and expensive to scale effectively.
GreenKey’s patent-pending technology analyzes the emotion, behavior, and sentiment within police body camera audio. These specialized algorithms can detect which sentence structures result in the highest level of respectfulness and de-escalation.
This technology is used by elected officials to create a set of reports that give greater visibility into police interactions at scale. These insight reports are being used to improve policing with better training and civilian oversight.
GreenKey CEO Anthony Tassone spoke on the partnership saying, “GreenKey is a world leader in natural language processing with many patents already issued and its inclusion in the R2 Network will make it easier for the public safety market to discover and implement this technology, accelerating innovation in public safety.”
About the R2 Network
The R2 Network is a free-to-use, self-sustaining platform that serves the entire public safety community. It brings the industry together for a common goal – to support innovators and agencies in empowering first responders with the resources they need to stay safe while protecting their communities. Built by industry experts, this platform enables the creation of a strategic nationwide network of organizations working to address disaster response and resiliency (R2) challenges with transformative technologies.
GreenKey (GK) unlocks body camera data to improve training and drive better policing in our communities. Through its natural language processing technology, GK enables police departments to quickly and effectively audit audio captured from body cameras so the data is transcribed, organized, and made searchable. These insights can inform us if an interaction was respectful, if racial bias was present, or which de-escalation tactic was most effective.
